Radwanski's Ramblings...

Mega-housekeeping

It's taken me a few days to get back in the swing of things post-Austin. The need for sleep has been so strong that, for the first time in a decade, Oasis came to town and I didn't go. Oh, and I also haven't updated this blog. Ahem.

Today, though, will be a rude awakening from my SXSW buzz. Provincial budget lockup during the day; Sheila Copps event at night. Back to the real world, sadly.

In the meanwhile, time to fill in some gaps. Hopefully, you religiously checked the SXSW blog I did for the Post ( still up, for now), so you have some idea what I've been on about. If not, all three SXSW pieces are now over here. If you're just going to read one, go with Monday's wrap-up.

I do still have a day job writing about politics - hence last Friday's column on the Senate and why we should get rid of it.

Regular blogging should resume any time now. I finally don't feel tired or hung over. Good thing I'm not, like, heading to Vegas for my bachelor party any time soon or anything.

Tell your friends

The bad news: This site will likely be dormant until early next week, unless something pressing of a non-SXSW nature occurs to me while I'm at SXSW.

The good news: I'll be doing a SXSW blog for the Post that you can access for free (honest) right here.

It remains to be seen what exactly I'll come up with deprived of sleep and loaded up on beer and barbeque, but I promise something interesting at some point.

Much more productive than that time Martin hung out in a tent with Qadhafi, anyway

Does Stephen Harper's Afghanistan visit make up for a generally rough first five weeks in office? Debatable. But he's definitely more likeable today than he has been any other day since the election.

As mentioned previously, my complaint isn't that we're in Afghanistan - it's that the government that sent our troops there never sold it to Canadians. In that regard, at least, the new PM is clearly an improvement.

Kirby, Pt II

Friday's column on Kirby Puckett, building on last week's posting below, got a pretty positive response - including, somewhat unexpectedly, an e-mail comparing me to Rosie Dimanno. Not the comparison I necessarily would've been seeking, especially considering this, but I think it was meant nicely. I'm not sure if my sports-related columns draw positive responses because I'm good at them, or just out of sheer relief that it's not another piece on Canadian politics. Either way, it's nice to know I'm not just amusing myself by writing them.

How long till the flags come down this time?

There are many, many things on which I disagree with Jim Flaherty. But on this, he's absolutely right. The Liberals' side-deals made a mockery of equalization.
